Carb fix - think it'll hold?

Brazed up this crack last night, finished it up tonight.
Made a big difference in how far that plug goes in.
Its not perfect but it'll go on my tractor so not worried.
I think it'll hold as long as I don't get heavy handed and reef
on the drain plug.

Royce,That looks like it will work just fine, you might want to put a drain cock in it so the plug won't have to be screwed in and out to drain it ever again. Good job!I fixed one like that years ago and it worked great.Even brazed a few cracked ones up on the inlet also, where some one over tightened the elbow fitting.

I think the drain valve is a good idea Den.
I use one all the time when I'm testing carbs.
Helps me not mess up the new paint.
I might have to dedicate one to this bowl if it doesn't hold.

(quoted from post at 20:48:38 04/15/16) NO ! You screwed the whole thing up - will never work ! Yust pushing your chain ! ;^)
LOL Hope you brazed those chain links together good! :)

At first I was reluctant to click on this
thread as I was afraid you might have JB
Welded something.
Should have known you're a man to things
right.
Nice job.

Well, I had nothing better to do you know. ;)
Flea market/yard sale/tractor show season is coming up.
I always watch them closely for rebuildable used carbs.

Thanks Jerry.

I suppose JB might have sealed it for a while but I would
think it would crack more easily when you try to tighten
the plug and it seems that gas would eventually eat it away.

I thought this was a better way to go since I have no fear of a torch.

Of course JB could be replaced again with no harm if needed
but I'm hoping not to have to repair this one again.

You can not take credit for the drain valve, old took credit for it last week said he had been using them for 40 years... Funny thang the first I had ever read of someone using a drain was 10/12 years ago and it was not him that posted it

Looks good I would be proud of it TOO...

Paint and fuel..

I put a new inline metal fuel filter on a 95 Toyota this week it leaked at one of the line nuts. The fuel ate the paint off the filter I wrote it off to its the best paint china could come up with.

Funny thing - gas on a newly painted carb usually eats the paint fast!
I need to take all of the paint off a bowl I painted last week.
Figured, no problem, I'll drop it in a pan of gas and it'll be gone.
That was three days ago. Paint has barely bubbled!
Either the new paint I used works better or Murphy is still here.

Might hold forever.

Tell you what I did on one. Drill stopped crack, brazed, installed a m?fm adapter and brazed that in, then used a brass drain plug like for a block fitting.

Kinda big.. But...

They're getting hard to come by Chris, so for those that aren't
concerned about looks I think your fix would work fine too.

I probably should have drilled a stop hole in this one too.
This one wasn't real bad, but the owner wanted to leave it bare.
With a clear coating of course. So the braze wouldn't do for him.
