afterthought

they were nice, neighbor had one,
his had the 5 speed transmission up/down shift took me a while to get used to that, but once I learnd it was good to go.

always thought it had a slow road speed, but it finally got there and was a good looking hard working tractor.

his sons traded the old tractor off this last year for a new little Ferguson with a front end loader, hated to see it go.
but they had let the great looking paint job rust, so it did not have all the bright shiny red and gray paint it did back when I got to drive it, so many years ago.

My next tractor will be a 1956 Ford 860. With the 172 cu/in OHV engine and live power/PTO, you can't go wrong. I love my 8N and my early 9N is in restoration mode and will be strictly for show anyway, but the 860 will be the workhorse. I'd be able to use my Dearborn 3-bottom plow and plow snow twice as fast than with my 8N. I may keep the 8N for mowing grass with as it might be a little leaner on gas usage but all else would be the 860. When I find a decent '56 860 I'll buy it but so far all I see for sale are 55's or 57's...
