i know this has been asked a hundred times before and searched bunch and come up with tons of answers

what type of tractor supply hyd fluid does my 9n take

also is there a link on how to remove the top cover

When built they called for a GL90 weight oil but that gets real thick in cold weather. You can use a UTF that meets the Ford 134D specs also and it is thinner but if you have lift problem it can cause more leaks.
As for instruction of removing the lift cover you need a I-T FO-4 manual it has a good bit of info on that

The original 1939 specifciation was for SAE 90 mild-EP gear oil.

By the fifties Ford was recommending SAE 90 for summer use, SAE 80 for winter use.

Another decade later it was Ford M2C-134A/B/C/D hydraulic oil for year round use.

A modern Universal Tractor Fluid is a generic equivalent to Ford M2C-134D.

By top cover, do you mean the cover on top
of the transmission or over the
differential?

the cover thats under the seat

" the cover thats under the seat "

The lift cover weighs nearly 100 lbs with the upper lift arms attached, & is very hard to maneuver. An engine hoist is an excellent idea. Remove the seat and spring, disconnect the upper lift arms at the knuckles. Remove the 14 bolts that hold the cover to the housing. (note that there are three different lengths) DO NOT remove the four nuts under the seat! Remove the right side inspection cover so you can remove the control rod tip from the pump intake valve. Lift the back of the cover straight up and slide a piece of wood under the cover to keep the tip of the control rod out of the rocker shaft. Once you are sure the control rod is out of the rocker shaft, you can then remove the cover.

Tell us what you plan to do in there & we can help you with the repair.
