About a month ago I posted about dragging this [b:dcc388254e]this[/b:dcc388254e] 8N home.

Today I was tinkering with it and noticed the spark was
intermittent. Here's what I found. Couldn't line up much worse.

Here it is with the new ones installed.

And [b:dcc388254e]here[/b:dcc388254e] is a short video of it running. (14 seconds)
Not too bad for a new set of points and a manifold out of the
spare parts bin. Oh yeah, changed out the lawnmower seat too.

Nice pictures, but I have to admit, it took me a bit to notice the misalignment of the points. What in the world would have cause those to get that far out of wack?????

"What in the world would have cause those to get that far out of wack?????"

My best guess? Cheap parts or a previous owner changed only the
moving part with a different brand from that of the bottom half.

Thanks for the pics, I learn from about every thread.

That's the one Dave. Runs fairly well now but it'll need some adjusting.

Last time I dug into my 9N the points were way more misaligned than that. Just barely touching on the edge. No wonder it wouldn't run.

Just shows ta go ya!

Never overestimate a previous owner's ability or mechanical knowhow or what they consider a job well done . . . if they even care about striving for perfection . . . and take with a grain of salt whatever previous owners did or tell you they did to a machine.

Sounds like good rods and mains in the vid.
What is the oil pressure?

T

Good guess Royse cause there's twice the meat on the moving half of the incorrect matchup.

"What is the oil pressure?"

45 PSI warm at idle. I say warm because I had ran it for an
hour or so but didn't really work it at all. Just drove it around.
The compression is 120 dry and cold on all four cylinders too.

The guy I bought it from would have been the one to put the
points in, but he was not the one who did the rebuild.
I don't know who did that work.
