Working on an 8N with front mount distrib. Having a hard time finding tune up parts. That fit without having to modify them.It is now running but I have never had so much trouble finding parts that fit.I am 65 and have worked on many engines. But never had this much trouble. Any ideas.

I've never heard of such a problem before. NAPA and many other places (including this site) carry all of the necessary tune-up parts and no modification should be necessary. What parts are you having trouble with?

Front Mount 6volt NAPA p/n:
#FA350 - NAPA Standard Ignition Distributor Cap
#FA300 ? NAPA Standard Ignition Rotor
#FA200 ? NAPA Standard Ignition Condensor
#VR950 ? NAPA voltage regulator
#IC670 ? NAPA 6V coil

I don't think NAPA carries the 12V coil, but they are available from this site as well as many others.

As Bob said, BlueStreak. Napa's Echlin premium line works well too.
I just put these points in today. No issues at all.
I get them at my local parts store.

I bought Airtex 4P1046. This time. Wouldn't open to the gap needed. Bought NAPA parts last time. Points fit but rotor tip was to long had to sand it down. Just got in a set from a tractor site. Said they were what I needed would fit no problem.Points fit rotor is wrong and so is condensor. But thankfully tractor is running and sold. So I no longer have to mess with it.But is part quality getting that bad.

"But is part quality getting that bad."

Unfortunately, yes, they seem to be getting that bad.
NAPA usually has a premium line. They fit and last better.
At least that has been my experience. Glad you got it going.

A problem getting the points to gap correctly can be due to worn lobes on the cam and weight assembly.

When you installed the rotor, did you also install a new NAPA cap?

Yes the first time I used all NAPA parts. I think the last time he left the key on burned up the points. Had to replace the cam lobe and weights. It was pretty much flat. One of those I want it fixed but don't spend any money on it kinda guys. He is also moving out of town so hopefully I have seen the last of him.

Don't understand some people. Drive around in a sixty thousand dollar truck. Then complain because they have to spend money on equipment they want sold.If you don't spend money they complain because they can't sell it.
