8N cylinder head studs and gasket.

Howdy all. I've been shopping around for new head studs and nuts to replace my old ones. Nothing wrong or broken, just wanted a new head gasket etc. 2 questions please: First, the old head gasket is a Fel Pro 7277. If I buy one of the gaskets from this site, soft or metal, will the quality be as good as the FelPro? And second... dang studs on this site are pricey, nearly 5 bucks each times 18. So while I was shopping around, I came across one site, Steiner, and they have the pricey studs too... but they say the studs are for 15 of the 18 used on this engine. So now I am thinking that 3 of them are different. Does anyone know why?

Dont fix what is not broken unless it falls under a annual aircraft inspection and
required R&R. Fel-Pro is hard to beat. <'(((((>{

I'm the same, "aint broke dont fix" except my field for the past 37 years has been public transportation vehicles, buses and trains. But I have been repairing various needed items on my 8N and decided a head gasket would be good PM since I have the hood off and I am right there anyway. Hobby... and an excuse to go tinker in my shop hehehe.

Thanks for the input, I agree with Fel Pro.

Ray.

Im passed tinker, I got so many thing broken I will never get them all done. So tinker
if you must and enjoy.

I was looking at head gaskets for my 8n. The complete gasket set was about 12 bucks more so I bought a complete gasket set. It had a metal gasket. worked fine on mine. Bolts do come in certain grades witch is the strength of the bolt. So I suspect your suppose to use a certain grade. I don't know what that is. manual probably will tell you. Personally I would not replace your head gasket unless you have a problem that you need to change it and definetley would not change any head bolts unless one bad. Just my 3 cents worth.

i just replaced all the studs on my 2N. i paid 2.24/stud and .25/nut at my local auto value store.

my best guess is 3 are longer to accommodate the brackets attached to them. mine were all the same length, my mechanical guru assures me that's ok, but 2 of them do make me nervous to look at.

These are not like modern aluminum head
engines where the head expanding different
from the block make head gasket leak over
time, if it is leaking change it, if it
isn't then don't touch it, even your
grandchildren may never have to touch it
unless it's overheated etc
