Still on crazy governor response

This is driving me nuts, thank you all for the helps so far,...
I've made new throttle to governor rods from way too long to too short, all have same over revving response, last rod is at 24 3/4 my throttle response is nothing in first 4 ticks on quadrant, then 5 shows a quite a bit of response, 2-3 more is even way too many revs than I like,241b carb, idles good, idle set at 1 1/2 turn out, idle air at 1 turn, main at 2 turns
I tried royces rod lengths to no avail, tried ratface's suggestion didnt work so well either
Can't seem to find a rod length that will work
Please help
Sincerely
Going governor crazy

Well, now that you have the rod length right, I think you can
rule that out as being the problem. Does the carb respond as
expected when ran by hand? If so I'd be looking at the governor.

Thanks for the reply Royse,I'm not sure the rod "is" right,it's long enough to make governor arm just touch governor base,I'll try removing the throttle rod and operate by hand, also I've had the governor apart a couple times and it seems fine???
Just kinda frustrated

Patina488n,Is the governor spring loose and flopping at idle position? If it is it should just be snug and not loose. If it is loose that will cause a no increase in RPMs for the first 1/4- 1/2 movement of the throttle on the quadrant, till the spring gets some tension on it.

Check the "fit" of the other "governor-to-carburetor" rod.

The carburetor butterfly shaft should reach it's "wide open" stop JUST BEFORE the governor arm runs out of travel in the "open" direction.

If your rod is the length we talked about, 24 inches, it's right.
I fail to see how the length of that rod would make it just race off.
You should have a linear response on your throttle if your governor
is working right. I know you said you have had it apart several
times, but have you adjusted the governor as per the manual?

Is the plate that the throttle rod connects to on the carburetor on tight? Mine was a little loose on the throttle shaft and controlling the engine speed was really tricky and it would over rev. A new throttle shaft took care of that.

Thanks all for replys,
RM NM, plate is tight just had carb off yesterday and touched it

Bob,I did the fo-4 setting yesterday, still doesn't want to cooperate
With no throttle response in first bit of throttle movement

Den N MS, the spring stays stable(no flop) at idle, but I wouldn't say it's SNUG,I can move it alittle at idle with a screwdriver, which is 1-4 ticks on throttle quadrant

As said only thing changed was manifold, and making new rods ,
This governor was working well with this carb for at least 5 months

Just went and checked to see when spring on governor actually seemed "SNUG" ,it's at 12tics on throttle quadrant ,so maybe Den N MS is correct that I should tighten spring
Seems this might be the problem,of course it's almost impossible to tighten spring without removing governor but I'm all in!
