2N distributor gasket.

Well, I took everyone's advice and bought a distributor gasket kit. It came with a cork gasket for the distributor cap. The thing is, this gasket causes the distributor cap to not sit totally flush against the body. There is a recess in the cap that looks like maybe the gasket should fit into, but when I attempted to do that a section at a time when I got to the end there was too much gasket if that makes sense. (Like the diameter of the recess and the diameter of the gasket are different. I put it on as is and rtv'd on the outside between the cap and distributor base.

Will I have any problems?

I have noticed that its a hit or miss with those gaskets.

I purchased a few used front mount complete distributor units off of ebay cause I wanted to customize a coil setup for them and noticed that on 3 of the units all purchased from different sellers, the cap was RTV'd to the housing. Guessing maybe it was a common thing to do.

I think they get stretch out when you try to push them into the groove. You kinda have to push the gasket together as you push it down into the groove.

They do get stretched out as you push it into the groove. My solution has been to cut the gasket. Then once I've finished installing, trim away the excess, which can be as much as a half inch.

So, is it ok if I just placed it on the distributor cap and installed? I am so tired of working with this thing. I did not put it in the groove but silicone around the outside of the cap.

ALL that tiredness will be gone when you fire it up, and you will get a big smile on your face and tingle all over, trust me.
