Radiator Flush

Any particular preference for a radiator flush brand for an 8n with an aftermarket radiator? Should I use a flush kit? Should I pull the thermostat? Using 50/50 prestone to replace. Walmart had a sale on it. Nothing wrong, it is just time for a flush and change.

When you pull the t-stat to do a flush, do you always pull the hood? I would hate to get that thing off twice if I can avoid it. Help is not readily available.

If the screws on the clamps are facing the
correct direction and you hold your mouth
just right, you can get the hose off
without removing the hood.

I think you should be able to get those clamps off without removing the hood. If you need a bit of clearance just remove the front leg bolts and lift the hood up a bit. Should be enough.

Definitely should remove the T-stat so you can get the water moving around freely. Years of sludge in that engine is probably gonna resist any flushing. Some folks around here use white vinegar as a flush.

When installing the clamps back in I replaced the clamps with a wing nut type hose clamp. Heck of a lot easier for the future.

I used to buy the 50/50 mix at our local store. $8 bucks a gallon until one day I was looking at them and a friend of mine who worked there and came up and asked me what I was doing. He said your better off buy to the fully concentrated stuff at $10.50 gallon. So I never buy 50/50 anymore. Not sure I would flush an 8n block unless you have been having temp problems. Any loose stuff would probably be in your old radiator. The cooling system seems to be quite large for the old tractor. Just my 3 cents worth.
