As most know I always say buy Made in the USA.But not always possible
to do that I myself have had to swallow that bitter pill. Somebody
somewhere said they had gone to china and the chinese are hard
workers!!!!Real hard workers and right here under our nose in
America. 60 Minutes tonight had a story on how they are stealing all
our industrial knowledge with industrial espionage within the US
border, you could have knocked me over with a cotton ball (not). Why
would anyone go to china to start with? I was not at all surprised
about the show. I have been on the band wagon for over 25 yrs telling
folks about what was going on and was scoffed at for saying Buy Made
in the USA, but I have got some ears here and there. Anyway for your
kids and grand kids buy American when possible, cause I know if we
dont we will loose their future. Wal_Mart started this chinese made
stuff and a lot of places followed. WalMart is closing some of their
stores and Cabelas laid off a large number of their corp
employees 2 mos before Christmas. It can all be linked to where their stuff is made, without
jobs Americans cant even buy chinese made stuff. The good news the
chinese economy is starting to show cracks. The Parasite always kills
the Host.

And if you believe all that is reported on 60 Minutes, I have a nice bridge for sale. 60 Minutes has been known to invent some facts to make the show. Try your best to buy American, like the Ford truck. Oops, I think that is made in Mexico. Maybe a John Deere tractor. Oops, that one may be made in Italy or Japan or India. How about a nice pair of cotton jeans. The cotton was probably imported. It has gotten very difficult to buy American as the major companies import from all over the world. One of the best in that respects may be Toyota. Oops, while the cars may be made in the US of mostly US made parts, the company is Japanese.

They really didn't have to steal anything. all these American (well North American and European) companies brought the technology over there and gave it away freely. Their customers want cheaper prices, it's the Companies that didn't care about the quality, they kept going back and kept asking for better prices. The ones that did care just went broke. The real problem is that your values aren't the same as the majority of your neighbors. you might be willing to spend 50% more for an item, take care of that item and make it last. look around, that sentiment is pretty rare these days.

ask someone under 30 what a rotary phone is and how it works. times change people change with them. adapt or get buried.
also. I stopped watching 60 minutes about 20 years ago. the show proves nuthin, solves nuithin. the only thing it does is give you a headache.

ren't they the people that put firecrackers on Chevy gas tanks to make a fire when they crashed them?

Buying American made stuff is good and should be encouraged, but in many cases it doesn't mean quality or value. Any doubts?, go to your local fast food restaurants and let me know how the service was and the attitude of the employees. Manufacturing is just the next step up the ladder from fast food in this country, so is health care worker.
Americans like cheap stuff and China is just the current stop on the moving labor pool. Manufacturing started in the northern states and when wages and demands got too high they moved to the southern states where they could cut costs. Now in the south we have superfund sites where factories used to be. Then they went to mexico and now we're on the China. China does offer a good worker and can make very high quality stuff if the company jobbing it to them specifies it. unfortunately it's American companies specing the garbage and offering no quality control or customer service. But hey!, look how high the stock market goes now before it drops like a rock!

To the people complaining about Chinese junk, I would suggest they do like TOH and start a business and make some parts for our tractors. Start small, make one small part and go from there.

Interesting. I recall the stories on the trucks - and owned one myself back during that time. Very damaging to any manufacturer, and I am surprised that there was not more ramifications on fabricating such a story and presenting to the public.

Switched from Levis to The Made In USA brand of Carhartt jeans. Does that count?

OK truth be told my Gal said I look better in them.

Work and family took me away for a few months. I was traveling a lot due to a new client which kept me on the road driving for 4-5 hrs a day. Started remodeling the house which ate up any spare time I had. But thank God that has ended.

Was sitting at the table the other night and the better half said don't you miss working on the tractor? So she lit the fire again!

Thanks for asking. Missed all the folks here.

"the better half said don't you miss working on the tractor?"

That sounds pretty close to "I'm tired of you being in the house!" LOL
Glad to hear all is well.

A home can be built with 100% USA materials. A list of suppliers can be had and it would only add about 1% to the total cost. If everyone did this it would create hundreds of thousands of jobs. Menards store occasionally has a made in USA sale and there is still a surprising amount of USA made tools. Walmart used to pride itself on selling American made products from small companies but I think that idea left with Sam. I do avoid that store as much as possible and rarely go in there. It doesn't matter what time you go, they always keep you waiting in checkout.

"Yea, heard Walmart is closing 269 stores--going to put 14 checkers out of work....."

Now that's funny Tom! LOL
