Rocker Arm Alignment

Question on rocker arm alignment on the NAA....

When I took the NAA apart, I noticed that several rocker arms don't line up exactly center of the valve ends. Can't find anything in my manuals about shims or alignment, etc. so thought I'd ask...

Is it a big deal? Are the rockers bent? Can't imagine since they appear to be be cast.

Any thoughts or info appreciated.

Mdparrott,The main thing is if the face of the rocker is worn down with a grove you could not set the valve lash. You can have them refaced on a valve reface machine so the valve lash could be set correctly. Also they all could have been removed off the shaft at one time and crossed up.I know they should all be the same but you might try swapping then around for a better fit. The first pic shows one off to the right, second pic shows another off to the left. They could have some slop in the pedestals bolt holes to cause them to be off.Or they could be shimmed to get them centered up if you wanted. It will run like that for many many years.

What you are seeing is normal/typical for this blue stuff and a a lot of other stuff out there, even though it looks/is pathetic.

However, there's nothing to prevent you from shimming/correcting/improving the situation.

Just make sure they are back in the same spot. Chrysler made a shim years ago to help with noise reduction in the rocker shaft for the old 4 cylinder Mitsubishi engine that you slid on the shaft.
