Anybody ever just take their in for a drive?

I find I get mine out quit frequently, and just take it for a little drive. I was cleaning up some old pics on my phone, and found this one from back in the summer. Must have seemed like a good day for a tractor ride.

I take my 8N out for a ride as often as possible. I have plenty of gravel roads to go on as well as roads in our wood lot. This is my 4 wheeler.

I take mine on a road trip now and then, but only when I've got a job for it somewhere. The last two years I drove 7 miles to a buddies house to pull his pontoon boat on shore for the winter. I volunteer my tractor for that kind of work just to enjoy the drive.

Mine will pretty well fit anywhere my 4 wheeler will fit. I've been needing to build a carry all. Lots of jobs the N would be better suited for.

That's not "make work" Scott, that's "intelligent engineering"! :)
I don't usually drive mine just to drive it but if I need to go
check out the deer blinds or just go see how the much damage
a storm did, etc. I'll take it instead of the truck or quad.
I also use it to test the carbs I rebuild so I drive it pretty regularly.

I should drive it over this spring to help you with some plowing. That would be a nice cruise. :D Might get some funny looks at the stoplight in Belding though.

I recall riding with my Dad, who passed at 75y/o in '92, out through the 80 just enjoying the woods. I still miss him and it is me who is 70y/o now... Good tractor times. Good memories.

I hauled a 9N about 150 miles today, I'm sure we could get
yours here for a plow day if you wanted to do it.

Speaking of the light in Belding, there's a body shop on that
corner - the owner is a tractor fan. I bought my Farmall F20
from him. It was too wide for my trailer so he drove it from
there to my place for me. That's one bouncy ride on an F20 with
that springboard seat slung out behind the rear axle like it is!

You can't beat the TSC carryall frame as a starting point. Cheaper than you can build it yourself.

I also use my 2N to go 4 wheeling out in the desert or just to cruse around the neighborhood. I live in an area with a lot of family acreage and farms so I have a lot of gravel roads to ride around on. Not very fast but it relaxes me to cruse around slow.

Oh yea I probably spend more seat time just tooling around in the coarse of a year. My wife calls it tractor therapy. This last fall I drove 22 miles or disk up a friends lawn so we could reseed it. I was going to get a trailer but I figured I had not drove those roads on the 8n before so I just drove it over.

I live in the city and frequently take my
tractor out for a ride. Along the train
yards past the no trespassing signs - the
engineers and security just wave, around
the lakes and parkways, through the alleys
and play lots to go get some beer, or just
through the neighborhoods putting along.
It's surprising how many people like to
see an old farm tractor.
Whites,blacks, asians, young, old, male,
female,etc.
Even creepy looking gangster types will
pause and look for a moment, then smile
and give a thumbs up or wave.

Quite often, as we dint farm anymore i dont want it to just set, have a '49 A that also gets brought out of the barn on occasion, just put some fresh napa points in this 46 2N and its made all the diffrence in the world when starting. Really flies on the open road, has the sherman overdrive.

Your friends know you too well when they (different people on different occasions) invite you over just to shoot the bull and
when you show up on your tractor, the first thing they say is "it's such a nice day, I figured you would drive your tractor
over."

Since I got my Case, the 2N has pretty much been retired to play duty. When I need some therapy, I fire it up and cruise the back
roads for a while. Some people exercise their pets on a nice day, I exercise my tractors.

After doing some work on the Case, I had to run it at operating temperature for a few hours, and didn't have any work for it at
the time, so I drove it over to a friend's house. Later they sent me this picture with the following caption: "You know it's a
good Saturday evening when your friend randomly shows up at your house on his tractor."

Before moving back to the farm, I sure would. A drive along our field roads or down the gravel road through the village on the edge of our farm would help clear my head of the sights and sounds of the city. Now that I'm back on the farm, I get plenty of time on the tractors, but I still like to stop and just listen to the engine run.

Picture taken when I got back from a test drive to a buddy's place after redoing the motor.
Now that have FEL back on is too hard steering for 'cruising" about.

I finally broke down and purchased the same thing from TSC last week. Only had my tractor for 12 years and figured it was about time.

The thing just fit nicely into the side door on my old 1989 Ford Aerostar!

Yep, I used to go for rides on the Model A doodlebug, and later on the stock 8N, nowadays it is on the 8NV8. Now that we are moving to TN from upstate NY I will have a whole new set of back roads to explore. Thanks to the gent for starting this thread.
