Going to need 6 or 7 ft bushhog

Since you posted this in the ford 9n/2n/8n section I assume you will be running it with one of these tractors. IMO The 6' and 7' are too big for these tractors. Get yourself a 5 footer and use an ORC on the pto shaft.

I have both 6' and 7' Woods HD cutters. They are heavy and expensive but well made and cut well.

More information is needed to offer more useful advise.

Just be used in heavy byhalia grass and weeds and small underbrush like size of a quarter occasionally..

Sorry I forgot to say it will be behind a real tractor-a 60 hp Kubota--already have a 5 footer behind Dad's 2N and I know it works good and I know 5 ft is the ideal size for it...wish I had a penny for every blade of grass I have cut with an N......Yes I could retire and roll pennies the rest of my life...My N just sits under the picnic(no picnics anyway) and does nothing--might sell it to help defray the cost of the Kubota..Thanks

Should say picnic shed..Yes I know how ro edit-..didn't want to do it right..I want o do right I just can't...especially when wife has just jumper on me like a rattlesnake for nothing,,,.................................

That is cheap--I'd try one--the one I bought and put behiond my Dads N was a 5 ft-think I
paid 675 and it has been good--He has abused it pretty good for 10 yrs now and it is still
going---don't know the name..just like anything else u pay a lot for the name
itself....Thanks

if it were me I would buy a landpride, rhino,or Bush hog brand and leave the cheaper ones alone if I could , if you don't have any money then buy a cheap second hand whatever and watch for a good deal on a good cutter.

If it works out I will be spending 3 times what I had planned for a good ised tractor--would still have finances to buy anything I want but I do set llimits for myself--thats how I have collected some extra change over a lifetime of working..anyway will/might look at bushhog brand..landpride finish mowers were no good a few years ago so kinda stay away from the.Maybe they got better by now///Have no time to look around for stuff and usually a deal is snapped up right out from under my nose so will likely just get a cheap one--I do not abuse stuff so cheap should easily outlive me.. TKS

My uncle brought a almost new bush hog are Hardee brand it was a top line model... The gear box has always gave issues. We rebuilt it it still Howells... I don't see were its better than anything else...

I think you will be OK with a cheaper one no more than you will use it they all it rust apart the same...

60 PTO or engine HP?

I use my 7' Woods BB840X cutter with a heavy 60 PTO HP tractor. I would not want to use it with anything lighter or with less HP.

Bush Hog, Woods, and Land Pride make quality mowers. Bush Hog and Land Pride (and maybe Woods) also make low cost units to compete with the low cost brands.

I've never been a fan of Hardee. Owned one once and found it to be a low cost unit.

Whether to spend the money for a name brand (not low cost) unit depends mostly upon how long you plan to keep it.

FWIW: A good indicator of mower quality is the tail wheel bearing. Roller bearing: quality unit; Bronze bushing: low cost unit. With even irregular lubrication, the roller bearing will outlast the mower (and likely you as well). The bronze bushing will always be a maintenance issue even with daily lubrication.
