Bulb Retainer

Picture is of the work light on my 8N, it uses this wire retainer that I've highlighted. Anybody know of where I can find another? The ones the parts list is different and i need one of these for a different tractor.

I'm not as much into the "originality" thing as much as some of you, and value something that WORKS ahead of being a "purist".

A couple of dabs of silicone sealant will hold/stabilize the sealed beam in place as well or better than the original "spring" that is now nearly made of "unobtainium".

YAMMV!

HiYa Kevin-
Well, that lamp is not an original Ford or CM HALL rear implement lamp so figuring out who made it might prove futile. The original used 3 or 4 special clips that held the lamp bulb in place. I have restored many of the originals and most every one had 4 clips though the parts books show only 3 were required. Here's a LINK to nnalert who sell a 3-pak of the clips. If interested, I have original FORD Implement Lamps for sale...email me if interested.

Might go to a local electrical supply store, they might have a heavy ground wire you could bend into that shape.

Be sure to have the lights well fused as it looks like that wire could come loose in a hard jolt and short out you wiring system.

Safety first!

All I have ever dealt with had the small clips.

I've not seen a bulb retainer like that before. I suspect that it is from a later model tractor or, perhaps, aftermarket.

Totally wrong on that one Tim. That is for the work light with a sealed beam that came out in about 1951. There was also a kit to upgrade the incandescent bulb units to sealed beam about that same time. We purchased one of those kits as soon as they were available (about that time) and Iinstalled it on our 1950. The box it came with the old parts in it hung around our shed till we sold the farm in the 1990's. My current 1952 8N has that version of the work light also, probably original as everything else is. I have often mentioned that change previously too.

Sometimes items were omitted from parts books simply by error
or because they occurred between editions or were covered by change order. We discussed this lack of listing for these items a few weeks ago over on the other site. I would be very happy to furnish you a part number but we both agree we have not found any. Sorry, all I can offer is my strong recollection of installing the conversion kit on our 1950 8N in about 1951, seeing the Ford Tractor box with the old bulb and clips in it for over 50 years on the shelf where it remained till the farm was sold plus the lights that I have seen over the years along with the one presently on my 1952. Yes Tim there is such a light and there was such a kit, in the books or not. By the way the conversion kit was a boon to owners, it provided much more light, greater durability and at a lot lower cost.
