Thanks HCooke, heavy cardboard is a great idea.

Trouble is that a screw going through it needs to stay away from the metal where it passes through the eyelet

Oddly enough this part is not shown in the parts manuals I've been looking at. I even went to the dealer and they don't have a listing for this insulator as well. Coat it with some sort of rubber dip? I'm not quite sure.

why not the plastic piece part "B" from an old set of points. That piece folds over, don't know if you would use both halves or just one. already has a hole thru it.

Thanks for the comment ratface,

I did look at that with the same idea (as I have a few old points lying around) There is a thickness difference that wouldn't allow the insulator to fold over properly, and as it doesn't grab the sides of the stanchion, there is a chance that the centre may slide around and contact the inside. I'm looking into a brush on liquid insulator this morning. Maybe a combination of the two, i.e. brush on liquid insulator with the insulator from part B, cut at the hinge so it will fit, on either side?

Ideas are always appreciated, thanks.

I find it odd that this little insulator is not listed in the parts manual, I can't be the only one who has had this melt.

Your local hardware should have a drawer of assorted fiber washers that are used primarily on water faucets.

Does it matter if copper strap is under insulator or under wire from condenser having trouble getting fire from points no fire to plugs fire at top of coil Ford 2n front mount new coil points condenser rotor button dist.cap. ?? Thanks

he copper strap is simply an electrical connection (just as a wire would be) from the points over to the condenser lead & coil connection concave screw. So, it clearly must be insulated from the metal structure (ground).

(quoted from post at 11:48:19 11/25/15) So it needs to go under insulator ??
an't answer that, because I can't see what you have. Highly unlikely that it is still Ford factory stock. If it is "factory stock" then the copper strap is fixed in place & can not be re-positioned (as I recall) on the connection to concave screw side. On the points connection side, it should be in contact with the points spring-like assembly & NOT be grounded to structure.
