Put new rings in my 8n. BLOCK/HEAD all cleaned up. Ready to put new head gasket on. Do any of you put any sort of a sealer on the head gasket. I never have but I have been told some people do. Thanks Norm

It depends on the gasket. Some require sealer, some don't. What do the instructions say?

If it requires a sealer, I always use Copper Coat.

Make sure you torque the bolts in 3 steps in the proper sequence.

ditto what bruce said.

in general I don't use sealers on HG's.. but I too have used copper coat, and back when i could find it, indian head a couple times. fiber gaskets only, usualy..

Had a fellow I talked to last weekend he said he uses copper coat. I have a manual that shows the sequence for tightening the head bolts. Its a metal gasket that came in a complete overhaul gasket set. Didn't see any instructions unless I overlooked it. Thanks Norm

If I had to use a metal gasket I would use copper coat.
Also another vote for the proper torque sequence and
a mention to re-torque it after running it to warm it up.

If it's metal, use copper coat.

Torque in three steps, per the picture.

Run it to operating temp, check for leaks. After it cools down, re-torque.
