Can you start the engine of an 8n without the governor installed. I would think as long as you have good control over your intake on the carb it would work. Just wanting to try to start the motor to see if theres a bigger problem that's unknown before I buy one. thanks norm

When I bought mine first one it had no guts in the governor body. The line from the governor to the carb was zip tied to the throttle arm going to the governor body. It ran like a Swiss watch but just didn't have the power it needed when you bogged it down a little. You should be good if you are careful not to over rev it.

Good comments. Like I said I just want to get it running long enough to see how it runs. If im lucky all ill need is the governor. Thanks norm

I ran my old Versatile swather for 3 years with no governor. I had to watch to not overrev it on the downhill and had to increase the throttle on the uphill, same as I have to do with my truck. Most engines have no governor. Think of all the cars and trucks on the highway. Until cruise control came along they were all operated without a governor.
