Dist gear on cam shaft

A friend has an 8N side dist and has to change the gear on the very front of the camshaft that turns the distributor. How does it come off. I
thought Id ask b4 something else gets broken. No, I don't know how it got broken and yes I know he should buy a manual. Thanks

t is part of the cam casting. New gear = new camshaft.

Some are press fit to the shaft and some have 4 bolts that hold the gear to the cam shaft. Hopefully it is the bolt on type.
You are right, he needs the manual!

It's a press fit to the camshaft. A gear puller will remove it. Part number is 7RA6255, available from many sources.
ummm...guess I should have looked at parts book instead of old cam. I think you saved him some time & trouble. :)

I would check the distributor real good. Make sure the timing cover is in good condition were the gear end fits into it. To install the gear on the tractor I drill and tap the center of the cam install a stud and with a nut and washer push the gear back on. Its indexed try and get it as close as you can close is good enough...

Someone may have a used cam are a bad cam cheap you can salvage the gear from. I don't remember the price the cam are dist gear is expensive... I have several cams but the gear has been sold on all of them, something was wrong with the dist. that's what got'em...
