Dearborn serial number records ?

Hi all -

Just rebuilt & restored a Dearborn model 19-5 back blade, S/N 39276.

Poked around and can't find any serial number records on line. Trying to understand when it was built.

Thanx !

Pete

HiYa Pete-
All those records are long gone. The Dearborn Utility Back Blade first began in 1947 when the 8N was released in July. You'd have to attempt to determine how many units were built per year and go by that. Plows are a little easier to determine as most every N tractor sold also had a 2-bottom plow with it. Still, it's very doubtful that a plow was in sync with a tractor serial number. Tractor serial numbers can only identify the year built. Blocks were stamped AFTER they passed Quality Control, stored in a holding area, then pulled at random for the production line. There was no need nor concern to keep serial numbers in chronological order. Implement models were built, then stamped in a similar fashion. The 39276 s/n simply designates it was the 39,276th 19-5 blade made. There's a book, "FORD TRACTOR IMPLEMENTS" by Chester Peterson Jr. & Rod Beemer, though not complete, it is a helpful guide to understanding Ford, Ferguson-Sherman, and Dearborn implement production. They do list some production records and you will have to read about the specific implement to see if you can narrow it down to year built.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Suspected it might be a reach for the year of manufacture, but knowing it started in '47 is a help.

The silly things we old iron collectors do to entertain ourselves.....
