Trickle charger for 6v battery

I have a trickle charger that says its for 6 and 12 volt batteries. But, it has to way to set 6 or 12 Volt. Does it matter? Or since its a trickle charger does it not matter?

Of course it matters. Set it according to
the voltage of the battery you are charging.

I figured it's got to matter, but there is no buttons or anything to change from 12 to 6 volt. The charger does have a screen that says "analyzing" when first hooked up. I assume that is testing the charge level. Is it possibly checking the voltage and setting it automatically? It's a craftsman but I don't have the model number, I'll have to check for one and see if I can find a manual.

Found the manual and sure enough, it checks automatically.

When the charger starts, the GREEN LED will be solid, and the display will show ANALYZING BATTERY while the charger determines that the battery is properly connected, the condition of the battery, and whether the battery is 6V or 12V.

I have several of the shumacher brand sold by Walmart. They are automatic, 6 or 12 volt. No switch. Best battery maintainers ive ever owned.
$19.95 at walmart.
