Safety wire Flywheel?

I just got my 2n engine back from machinist and noticed flywheel bolts were not safety wired. They had wire in them when I removed it. Should they be safety wired and what kind of wire do I use? BTW, this was an ebay motor I bought cheap. Fortunately, rod and main journals were good and it was freshened with new valve train and sleeves ,pistons and rings. The original (in tractor) motor runs good but smokes and has low oil pressure. This rebuilt will replace it. Hopefully all goes well! Thanks, Bill

Bill........check that the machine shop didn't already "lock-tite" yer flywheel bolts. Yes, you kenn re-safety wire yer flywheel bolts too besides being glued. As fer what type of safety wire? Think stainless. TIP: you safety wire 2-bolts together, in direction so they don't cumm unscrewed. Me? I even have a safety wire pliers that will twist 2-wires together, that and $5 will gittcha cuppa kauphy from Starbucks. .......the glued Dell

when I was in college, I worked at a water meter factory, and on some municipal meter orders we had to safety wire the housing hinge that coupled the lid to the housing holding the meter can to the top of the meter casting.

We also used a special pair of pliers that would twist 2 wires, it had a cutter on the inside jaw, and midways up the handle a crimp for a lead seal.

Our wire was copper washed steel.

Not sure if anyone still used lead seals on safety wire.. might violate some california standard or something. :)
