8n ford overhaul

Finally go the head off. tried some things but finally put a bolt in the oil bracket, put the hoist on it and tried to lift it off. Finally with the hoist actually trying to lift the tractor I hit the corner of the block. Finally one side broke loose. When I got it off the head gasket was all tore up. Some of it was on the head and some still on the block. Now I have a mess to get cleaned off the head and block. It would seem as though when the guy did the overhaul he put some sort of gasket sealer on it. I have had them break when taking one off but never like this one. Didn't think you do that with a head gasket. Appears I will have to soak it with something. Anyone ever done this. What did you use. I did get to inspect the sleeves. Don't know how much it was ran after the guy did a complete overhaul on but they really all look good. No rings groves or anything. Ordered a manual and a complete gasket set. Should get it next week. Thanks norm

Pinball ,Someone got carried away with the gasket sealer on a composite head gasket.A good sharp putty knife or razor scraper is your friend, also a spray can of gasket remover or even paint remover will work good to remove old gasket stickem.
You should have let it soak with the MMO or ATF for the next week. But it is to late for that now.
So what do you have in mind for your next step?

Next week I will pull the piston so I can inspect it further and determine what size RINGS I need. I have seen them on ebay but they list couple different thicknesses. As far as I know there are just a standard 8n. Back this spring I soaked them with atf for a few days. Started it up and it smoked worse. Soaked it again and still the same. I only have so much patience and its wearing thin so time to take action. Over hauled my 960 few years back. 300 plus hours on it and it runs fine. Just change oil in the spring. Dose not seem like it will be a bad job to do. Hopefully nothing will crop up. thanks Norm
