Is it possible to repair a cracked block using ThermoSteel that is used for to repair exhaust manifolds. They claim it repairs boilers and has a temperature range up to 2400 degrees. the crack is in the water jacket by the oil filter.

My experience - I bought a tractor 12 years ago with some sort of plastic repair in the same area. It looked awful - kind of like a meringue
pie. I smoothed it down but was to chicken to completely remove it. It has never leaked.

Clean the area thoroughly - vee out the crack and drill a small hole at each end of the crack to stop its progression. Put the epoxy material
of your choice on the crack. When it is almost set place 60 grit sandpaper over the material to give it a cast iron texture.

For an alternative way to repair that crack, Google 'metal stitching'.

I never have used that stuff. What I have used is JB Weld or a good epoxy compound with steel filings mixed into it. Clean out the whole area well, degrease, grind out the crack carefully with a "Dremel" tool and then carefully layer in the JB or Epoxy. I usually keep a heat lamp on the area to keep the block warm. When finished you can grind down the filler material.
