8N Cooling System Flush

With help from the great folks on this site, I have survived replacing my crank pulley and axle pivot pin. Now I am going to install the new water pump, radiator, t-stat and hoses bla bla bla. So I am thinking ahead to start up. I got to thinking about all the old dirty water and crap in the rest of the system. When I crank her up, all that junk will be going back into the new parts. Maybe someone has come up with a way to flush it all out first, before it gets in the new radiator? Maybe some make shift trash filter for the first start up, and then do a normal flush after a few drains?
Thanks,
BJ.

BJ2016,Go to a plumbing shop and get the fittings to hook a 1 1/4"pipe couple to a garden hose.Remove the upper hose and clamp one end to the pipe couple, clamp other end to the head ,remove the block drain and turn on the hose to back flush the block. When the water runs clear, swap the hose to the water pump and turn it on again.Keep swapping back and fourth till the water runs clear both ways. You could even get fittings to adapt the hose to the block drain and flush that also.

Or you could even do it the cheap way and wrap a wet shop rag around the garden hose end real toght till you can just get the upper hose over the rag and clomp it tight.

Thank you sir, that's a great idea. That's an interesting rig you have. Looks like you are running a demonstration.

BJ2016,You can even run a wire in and around inside the block drain hole while flushing to really get the rust and crud out of the block. Before hooking up your clean radiator. You would be surprised how much crud is in the block.

TOH
ah, just trying to get men to use up rags & their share of water before it is all gone.

If you really want to do it right. Pop the 'frost' plugs and poke like you knew what you were doing - around everywhere you can get to, flush with hose (lots). Replacing plugs is easy. HTH
