Tractor Shelter Humidity Solved

As many will recall, last fall I was agonizing over the intense humidity in my one-tractor shelter. When I touched the ceiling, big drops of water showered down . . . alternator covered with new corrosion etc., etc.

Maybe you all know this, in which case I wish someone had told me, but a month ago a friend said that if I put a tarp floor in the thing, the problem would cease. I seem to recall someone suggesting a wooden floor though, which would be even better.

So I laid the tarp, tying it up to the lower rails on the long sides and laid old 1/4" ply pieces over it -- put some thick foam benches down too and some cardboard pieces.

I just checked and after a night of heavy rain and still raining today, with the tent zipped up, [b:44fcdc95e7]a dry ceiling[/b:44fcdc95e7]!!!

Jerry,

Thanks.
That's actually an old photo of when I first put the tent up, before the condensation disaster and before the new floor.
I haven't a photo of the floor yet.

Bob,
That's kind of what I did; I laid a 10'X12' heavy duty black plastic tarp and then laid thin plywood over it. If as you say, dirt over the tarp is even better, then maybe I should do that later.

But as UD says about our sea level proximity, our endless rain and my valley's even higher humidity, I'll have to wait till next summer for some dry dirt. :D

Cheers,
Terry

P.S.

Given that the black tarp is 10 mil
and with the plywood and thick cardboard over, would the tarp be less susceptible to puncture than with gravel over 4 mil plastic. I have seen water getting under the tarp floor so maybe having no holes in the sub floor is best. The grommets in the tarp were handy for tying it up to the side rails.

Tarp, scrap plywood and [b:7f2a74ec2a]then[/b:7f2a74ec2a] sand . . . how about that? :)
