steering sector broken balls

I disassembled the steering sector on my 8N. The ball retainers are broken in several places and several of the balls are split in half. All else seems to be undamaged. Is there a source for just the retainers ans balls?

The best guess I can do for the serial number of this tractor is 210625. The steering sector is pre 216989. Are there other thing to look for to narrow down the year model?

John Smith has a rebuild tutorial on his site. I would contact him as to sources for the guides.

Likely, the balls are a standard size, mic 'em and you can pick up replacements from many sources, from home improvement stores with an aisle of screw and other small parts drawers, to McMaster, and other on-line sources, even ebay.

I ren into a similar problem with an early 8N I bought early this year. I found that no one sells
the early guides, but the balls from the later model kit work fine. The later guides do not fit.

Your guides don't look too bad. Consider carefully working them back into the proper shape. You
may have to make a manderel from a long 3/8" bolt to control the inside shape.

My parts, including the sectors and ball nut, were so bad that I just bought a later steering gear
off ebay and modified the dash to fit.

all joking aside.. mush have been some amazing force to bust them balls.

I wonder how the worm and inside the ballnut look??

These are not 3/8 inch. The best I can measure the balls is 0.28.
What size are they supposed to be?

To answer my own question I am told these are 9/32".
