Is there anything I need to know special about tilt bed trailers? The weekend of the 24th I plan to rent an 18ft tandem axle tilt bed and haul my two tractors back from the cabin to my garage in town. I will most likely be hauling them on my own. I didnt ask what lb axles it has but i would think it would be ok to haul them both at once? Tires do not have fluid in them.

Lisa.........depending upon how yer tiltbed trailer friction brake works, you may NOT gittchur 2nd tractor on BEFORE it tilts down. I'd mount'em BIG wheels to BIG wheels, centering over the dual axles........HTH trailer Dell

I would say backem both on.Your gonna need more weight on the front to get it to tilt the weight on the back.

You are going to be too short to do that, to get 2 on you need a 22" trailer to be able to seperate them and to be able to get the tie downs on in an angle they need. They were just designed to fit crossways in a 10' wide rail car for delievery. If you did squise the tires togeter you would be tight against both ends of trailer and could not get your tiedowns to tighten properly. Do it in 2 trips. and be safe. A 16' is about correct in length for to balance and tie down a single tractor. I have that and what I use, also have an 17 1/2' trailer and would not even consider trying to get 2 tractors on it as if could even get them on and tied down could not balance it enough to be safe hauling. Do 2 trips and be safe.

To give an answer we need to know how big of tractors are you going to haul and weight capacity of the trailer your going to rent and what your going to pull it with.

Well 2 8n's are the tractors. I didn't ask the weight capacity when I called to see what they had. I will be pulling them with my truck. 1/2t Silverado. I'm not concerned about the truck pulling them. Weve had 2 on a 16ft trailer before. I can't really go any bigger of a trailer due to the location of the tractors. There just isn't room to turn around in the woods. The implements are not coming back with me.

You should be fine. Just take your time and strap them down good. If you don't like the way they look on the trailer take them off and load them a different way. Don't get in a hurry coming home with them. I put two on a 20 foot trailer all the time but the tilt deck may get a little interesting as I've never used one. Listen to the advice that's been given and make your own judgement. If you don't feel comfortable with it haul them one at a time. Two trips is better than being in the ditch on the side of the road. Wish one of us was out there to help you. You go girl you will be fine!

Thank you! I'd feel better if they had a non tilt. It will be a slow trip home. I've never put one on a trailer so should be interesting.

"I've never put one on a trailer so should be interesting."

But you've seen it done many times.
You know not to idle it down too far so it doesn't die going on
and if it were to die and start to roll then just let it roll back off.
No sense locking up the brakes (that's funny on an N) or popping
the clutch to get it to hold still. That can cause bigger issues if
it is already rolling.
I'm sure there's a bunch of basic tips around if you want them.

I've hauled 2 N tractors on my 18' bed trailer numerous times. My trailer is rated 10,000gvw. The rear 2 feet are sloped to where my hinged ramps are attached. In my case, I back both tractors onto the trailer. Neither has a hitch or implement attached.
I set blocking under the hitch jack to stabilize while I load. I turn the front wheels of the front tractor enough to allow the back tires of the 2nd tractor to tuck one rear wheel of the rear tractor between the wheel and hood of the front tractor. I lower the lift arms on both once up onto the trailer (have to wait until I'm up or they can catch the ramps). Never had a problem tying them down.
I've never tried a tilt trailer. Not sure how that would work trying to load two tractors. I prefer ramps.

(quoted from post at 05:49:31 10/12/15) I would prefer Ramps also. I'll do some calling around see if anyone else rents trailers.

If you have a ditch, back the tilt trailer into the ditch and load them. Or see if you can rent a car trailer to haul them on.

I bought a car hauler to move my 8n and love it. Wide and flat, has a 2 foot beaver tail and is only 13 inches off the ground on the tail.

No ditch that isnt too steep but there is a fairly decent mound i could back it up to.
I believe i've got someone to help me get them loaded and back and unloaded.
