I recently converted my 8N from 6v to 12v because it would not charge the battery. Before with a charged battery the tractor would immediately start. Now however, the starting spins much faster, but is more difficult to start. Any help would be appreciated.

verything but timing around 2 years ago. Timing has been a while. Since it has been running fine until the conversion I didn't think the timing would be off. I will check that out.

bhurly........gonna make a WAG (Wild A$$ Guess) yer talkin' bout the weird 4-nipple front mount dizzy. The points are frequently corroded by INVISIBLE contaminants. Me? I'd un-snapple the capple and PRY open the points (0.015) and stick the corner of $1-bill (cheap) between the points and pull. 2nd, keep yer itchy-twitchy fingers off'n that spring loaded choke knobie. The drill is, ignition switch ON, 1/3-throttle, 2-rumpa-rumpas on starter motor and then QUICK pull on spring loaded choke. Shud gittcha started. In winter time, you may haffta "feather" the choke AFTER the engine catches but NOT in warm weather. Many neubie tractor owner see them handy-dandy carb tweek'um and IMMEDIATELY want to adjust the carbie. Iff'n you did, ask fer carbie adjust instructions 'cuz they're weird but simple. .......HTH, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

you need to tell us with your conversion, whether a kit or homebrew......how you handled the coils resistance setup.
usually where the mistakes are made.
not enough and ya burn parts, too much and a no start/tough start.

Thank you Dell and Bruce for your assistance. The resistor that came with the conversion kit was broken, so I used one I had on hand. I replaced it with a 1.8 ohm resistor from NAPA. It tried to start, but would not run. I cleaned the points, now it starts and runs fine. When it started, I noticed that I no oil pressure. I bled the air out of the system to fix that. These 8N's will keep you busy, but I love them.
