8N Brake issue

I have a 52 8N that the left brake will come on by itself and drag. The shoes are new, axle seals are new, the axle bearings have the correct preload. The drums were resurfaced and I added a pedal return spring. I've set them tight and loose but the left side will still come on by itself driving forward. The only thing that helped a little bit is the added return spring to the pedal. At this point the only thing I can come up with is maybe the brake material's coefficient of friction isn't quite right for this application. What am I missing here?

Brian,Are the brake shafts loose and turn free through the bushings and oiled up good where they go through and in to?Are the stronger springs on the left side? Are the springs new?

Its a mechanical set up if a shoe is dragging in either up are down pedal position the brakes will apply...

In other words the shoes could care less in the direction they are applied... I doubt its the lining material I would wager the actuator is not centering back to the neutral position are something about the shoe is hanging on the actuator...

BTW I use the extra spring on both sides and always use new hardware... You can touch the drum up on a lath but don't go for the kill trying to make them perfect...

Any chance someone could post a pic of the correct springs installed? I installed all new springs when the new shoes went in. Without pulling the drum back off, I remember there being a spring holding the shoes together around the adjuster, another holding them together at the cam end and one large spring from the upper shoe to the cam support. I didn't have any left over new springs, but I guess that doesn't mean the kit was missing one. The shafts turn freely.

I don't mean to kick a guy when he's down but taking a picture of the whole thing before disassembling can be a big help no matter what you're working on. I hope you get it figured out.
