Got a problem with hydraulics on 2N

Problem....Hydraulic system is a bit wacky!
Sometimes the arms will not raise (cold or warmed up) and when they do raise up, they do not stop and strain to keep
raising up! I figure that the relief valve is sticking but would like to know of the possible cause and (I hope ) the
best/ easiest fix!

i very much doubt it is your relief... but rather intake / control valve.

open the inspection port and see if the control fork moves the T valve inand out smoothly and fully.

that's a first check.

wet, dirty, gritty oil tend to hang them.

if your relief was stuck ( open ), you'd have NO lift. If it was stuck (closed ), one of those times it 'strained' it would have blown a gasket out somewhere.. or worse..

So no.. I don't see this as a relief issue.. but rather a control issue.

You do realize that the 2N hydraulics are not designed to give you position control. This tractor has only draft control. That is the lift is either all the way up or down. You cannot get the lift arms to stay in between without constantly moving the lever. You can add position control with Zane Sherman's 'Zane Thang' It mounts externally (you do not have to go inside the tractor) in about 15 minutes.
Zanes web site.

No, the arms do not go up.....then they will, but will not stop as it should when they hit "full raised position"....same kind of sound you hear when you try to push any hydr. cylinder past its stop point
