9N Cut Out Query

Was wondering what the cut out (output) voltage should be on my 9N (6volt system). Its input from the generator is 15 volts and it spits out 6.2 volts to the battery, doesn't seem to keep the battery charged. I'm guessing it should be more... any thoughts would be helpful, thanks

ith 15 in, it should be 15 out. Just a set of closed switch contacts under those conditions.

If the generator is producing 15 volts and you are only getting 6.2 out of the cutout, then then the cutout is not closing its contacts as it should. The 6.2 you are reading is probably battery voltage.

Slicwilly,Jump across the two cutout posts with it running with a wire and clips. Then check battery voltage and look at AMP gauge to check for charge.Disconnect jumper wire,If it was charging the cutout needs to be replaced.

yup, my guess is he's got open cutout and reading unloaded armature V, and the 6.2 onthe other side is nominal batt volts, and he just doesn't understand current flow.

Thanks Den. Did the jumper as you suggested and ammeter comes to life a little bit and juice at battery is 7.4v. I am sorry, I think I should have just asked what the charging voltage should be for a 9N with a one wire generator and a cutout. No need to tell someone who posts here that they do not understand current flow as an apparently popular respondent did. Don't want, expect or appreciate judgmental replies. Just sayin'. It is a simple machine not a thermal nuclear reactor. We younger people appreciate your input, when we can get it without the attitude. Next time someone is told they don't understand something, they will just tune out. Think about it

It's all good. Been cruising the forum a bit and not sure why some guys answer in riddles and want to put people down. I'm not hatin' but, wow. Really? Just a tractor and if you can share knowledge, then I thought that was what this chat was all about. Thanks again Den. Not sure I will be back though.

Slicwilly.

The comment you are upset about was to another poster that understands elecrical current theory. Both of us were theorizing about what you were asking, witht he most probably answer being ( unsaid) open cutout, and an unloaded armature V reading on one side, and a static bat V on the other.

There was no intentional riddle to you.. I guess it might sound like a riddle when we were discussing your circuit.

No attitude was meant toward you.. it was a simple statement of opinion.

As you have figured.. you had an open circuit at the cutout.. thus a new 6v cutout, or regulator ( and use it's cutout portion only ) should get you going.
