Hydraulic piston

I will try again

I think someone took a stock original piston and put a o-ring on it.. I pulled apart a '48 and had the same piston but all 3 grooves had the steel rings. Has a naa piston with a o-ring in it now.

(quoted from post at 17:10:23 10/03/15) That's what was in it. No steel rings, just an O ring. Perfect fit for the O ring.

Surface finish is way too rough for an o-ring. Since it is a used piston I am guessing that is corrosion????

If I get time tomorrow I will get the measurement of the o-ring grove are what its spose to be to use a o-ring and back up washer in that groove...

TOH knowes for sure I got the tip from John Smith on the modification and have done several myself...

The archives are your friend. I have posted the specifications (lifted straight from the factory prints) a number of times

Don't know how well it was working, engine was bad so I didn't try it. It appears to be a 3 ring piston that someone enlarged the last ring groove into a rubber seal groove. The corrosion looks worse in the picture than it really is because of the flash. I've got some rings and rubber seals around the shop, I think I am going to put both of them on and see how it works.

Flash or not that surface is much rougher then an o-ring groove should be. Since I retired my time has become much more valuable ;-) andI hate doing jobs twice. Iif it were mine I'd spend the $23 a new NAA piston costs....

Just FYI here are the original Ford specifications:
