Home Machinist,Is the gas tank rusty inside?Did the sediment bowl screen have rust behind it?If so you may have to remove the tank for cleaning or replacement.

I was able to get my tractor running thanks for the input it was the fuel system. Should I keep the fuel level in the tank to keep this from happening again. On a different subject the throttle lever should it be put it all the way down or up before shutting down the engine or does it matter?

If you keep the top half of the tank full the bottom half never
gets empty. Now if I could remember that in practice! LOL

I slow mine down toward idle and let them cool down before
shutting them off. Somewhere around 1/4-1/3 throttle or so.
I usually don't close them all the way down to dead idle.
They don't have to run too long, just gives them a breather.

I usually start them in the same position I shut them off in too,
except for one tractor I have that starts better at 1/2 throttle.

Answers i've read on this forum suggest keeping a full fuel tank to reduce condensation in the tank. I rarely follow this well meant advise because of the hassle to fill fuel tanks as often as this would require. Laziness on my part As far as the throttle, I always throttle down before shutting off. My dad used to tell me that it caused less unspent fuel to be retained in cylinders. Sounds logical to me but like soundguy posted about misinformation recently (batteries stored on concrete steal the power) there are a lot of tales and truths out there. Sometimes it's hard to decide. I was told as a kid fishing in the swamps of eastern Arkansas that "If you git bit by a snapping turtle, then it won't turn loose till it thunders"! I've avoided them since.
