no third gear

Forum,
Can not get the '47 8N into third gear as of today. Did get it in once and it was hard to disengage and then would not engage again. Not too knowledgeable about gear shifters so any info will be appreciated.

Is the problem that the shifter handle will just not move to that
position or does it grind when trying to go in or ?

If the shifter handle just won't move to that position the spring
on the bottom of the shifter plate may have broken and/or
worked its way down into the way to move the shifter.

This one came off my 8N. It was shot.

time to pull the cover.

may be damaged fork , slipped set screws, etc..

no third gear
