9n oil filter change

This tractor has sat since the early nineties. I took the cover bolt out, lifted the cap off, but I can not get the filter out of the canister. Does the center piece turn out also?
Thank you

No the center pipe does not turn. If it's sat that long, the bottom of the canister is probably full of a tar like mess that needs to be scrapped out. Pull the canister off for a good cleaning. Blow out the lines too.

Thank you for the replies. I tried to pry it up and thought that I should make sure that I was going in the correct direction before I did something foolish.

I usually remove the canister when changing the oil filter.

Doing so makes it MUCH easier to remove the sediment from the bottom of the canister. Indeed, it makes it possible.

You will likely be astonished when you find the amount of sediment in the bottom of the canister.

Use two proper wrenches on the oil lines to prevent damage.
