OT- Question on replacing front brake hoses on Mopar

Could I please ask if any of you would have any words of wisdom for me on replacing the front brake hoses on my '78 Dodge dually?

The replacement brake hoses are slightly different from the originals.

The original hose retaining clips looked like the first picture, but the clips for the new hoses are similar to the second picture.

I can't figure out how to install the new retaining clips on the new hoses so the hose will be firmly fastened to its bracket so it won't move. Whatever I do, I seem to have wiggle where the rubber hose meets the steel brake line.

It doesn't seem possible to use the old retainer clips with the new hoses.



What the heck am I doing wrong?

Bill,You might try adding a flat washer behind the clip,or hose in the frame bracket to tighten it up in the bracket.Or get OEM hoses from Mopar.

What is wrong with it moving a little?

After you properly clock the hose the clip in the first picture needs to be forced into the slot. The brake hose should have a similar clip (second pic) holding the bottom of the hose so it doesn't go up too far thereby holding it firmly in place.
 
In Missouri, brake hoses are required to be held firmly in place for state safety inspection. Movement will cause wear which will ultimately lead to leaks.

That's what I remember being key on those old Dodges.
That hose only fit in the holder correctly when turned the right way.
Then the clip would go in, although it was still a tight fit.
