5 ft brush hog gear box

I purchased a ford tractor with a 5 ft brush hog this is my first tractor. My question is on the brush hog have not had the chance to use it yet but plan to my question is I checked the oil in the gear box used probe to inspect color and level color of oil was a nice clean amber color looked good. What is the oil level need to be and does these gear box use gear oil or different type of oil. Also this is a used brush hog that's why I'm asking too. Thankyou for any and all help.
Thankyou;
Travis

usually there are 2 plugs on the gearbox, pull both fill through upper one until lube comes out lower one. 90 weight should be fine

I have a small Howse 5 ft rotary cutter, the gearbox has two plugs, larger one for filling the gearbox with a vented plug,

lower on the body of the gearbox is a smaller plug, you fill at the top until oil runs out of the bottom hole.

I use 80/90 weight gear oil, you can buy it at most auto part stores.

agree with the others.. usually the gearbox has a fill and level plug. level plug is usually somewhere around the lower level of the input shaft.

gear oil.. 80w90, 90, 75w90, 85-140.. etc.

check the blades.. just need a 1/16" flat, don't need to be lawnmower sharp. check blade bolts and the ends of the blades where the bolts shoulder. check for cracks.. etc..
