For you 12 volters among us; headlights?

What are you using?

I'm currently getting a pair of rally lights off my Baja cleaned up and installed into my 2N. We get fog nearly every morning in my area and even during the early summer days you can't see too far in front of you so regular lights don't cut it for me. Couple later fall sunrises with thick fog and without the lights I've lost good working hours.

Each of these is 100w so I'm wiring in a relay for the fronts and one for the rears. Plan on having one fixed rear and one work-light style mount that I can aim. With the relays there should be little draw on the battery and they help avoid heatsoak as well. This time next year the 8N is getting a set of LED lights that have a better throw and look closer to actual daylight than these xenon ones. But when that beast is in better shape it will be the workhorse of the two Ns I've now got.

(quoted from post at 17:15:39 09/20/15) question, how does the relay reduce draw on battery?

It doesn't. It reduces the draw on the ignition switch which can't handle it.

TOH

That's pretty much what I meant. I've done this particular mod to 4 other vehicles and saw a significant whitening and brightening of the headlamps while having less draw through the rest of the system.

I put on a pair of $10 LED lamps

They are more like flood lamps than headlights because they throw out a lot of light everywhere!

I like them! Low power - tons of light. The tractor can double as a cheap light source.

Here's what they look like installed:

2 100w lamps plus ignition and a couple amps for batcharge are gonna be in the neighborhood of 20-25a at 14v

The lowest alternators I see in the 12SI range sold are 30? and usually more... shouldn't be an issue.

To me it would depend on where you're starting out.
If I had original style headlight's I'd just put 12V bulbs in them.
If you have none and don't care what it looks like, many places
sell universal 12V headlights you can buy relatively cheap.
LED lights are brighter and take less power.
I like them a lot but they can be a bit pricey sometimes.

Had the lights already since I recently parted out the Baja. They had about 8hr of run time so they're practically new. I'll be using them for about 10hr/yr since I do most of my work after the fog clears. For those days I do go out late or early they'll help a ton. I may end up going with an LED if these wash out instead of providing a good sight-line. In about 3 days I'll have the perfect morning to try these out and see how they perform.
