push button starter

this 8n side distributor came with a key starter system, i am restoring it back to the push button starter, would like to get
help on how this works with maybe some pics, there is one wire coming out of the push button, do i need to order a new one or
could i rehab my existing one. any detailed help would be appreciated. at this point it does not work.
thanks dave

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago. Bought a 49 8N off the father in law and wanted to bring it back to original setup. Check out the thread here. http://forums.yesterdaystractors.com/viewtopic.php?t=1241156

Still a work in progress...but I'm getting there.

Check the continuity on the push button first to make sure it is still good. Secondly, you'll need to confirm your starter solenoid is setup for ground and not for power. Mine was converted to a power solenoid, so I had to pick up a ground solenoid to get the push button to work again. More detail in the thread. JMOR has been awesome and has helped me a ton with my refurbish.

i ordered a solenoid and installed it, it is a 12v one wire alt. system with a coil that does not need a resistor, i have the one
wire attached to the single stud from the push button and at this time it doesn't work, how do i check the continuity and do i
need to take the tranny cover off?

thanks again

You will need to replace the solenoid. The one you currently have is activated by 12V. You will need one that is activated by grounding it. That's what the starter button does. Maybe someone will chime in with a part # for it.

This is what I used. . 8n11450. Worked great for me.
