8n rusty gas tank

the new 8n i purchased appears to have a rusty gas tank, what is the best way to clean or treat the rusty interior of a gas tank?

thanks dave

I have an air nozzle I added a 2ft long 1/4 steel brake line too. I remove the strainer and blow air in from the top with my air hose. I bend the tube so it will reach clear into the front of the tank. You will want to cover the filler with old rags and wear a face shield. A lot of rust will fly into your face!

I have a A/C D-17 that has that problem and all I do and have done for 5 years is live with dumping the sediment bowl. Not had any other problem with it other then a bad ignition switch. You can of course pull it off and put things like a bunch of nuts and shake it real good and flush it out. Or use martic acid to flush it

If you want to be a master raganager at nuttin do as the old guy says.... I would not trust a radiator shop to do the job as it should be... Surely they can do a wammbam thank you mam job you would be better off buy'N a new tank...

You can make the rust vanish for a shot time unless you take the time to coat the tank correctly it will come back to haunt ya...

New is hard to beat and will out live you...

define rusty.
Pretty much all tractors gas tanks I buy have some rust in em....somewhere.
just a little, I just flush it out with a high pressure nozzle on my garden hose, dry it and run it. no issues

look in and see an empty tank that hasn't had gas in it in years and is covered with rust..........in the junk.
not worth the work, and since rust is removing metal/strength....and the tank is over the engine....nope...in the junk it goes.
If I see considerable rust in a running tractors tank when I get it home, it gets the hammer test right away.
bang, bang, bang, on the bottom to make sure that metal is still safe. I've seen a few painted over tanks that the hammer head went right thru with the first firm whacks.
