8N starter turns

My 8N starter rolls over but does not always turn motor. Tractor runs good when it is pull started or turns over. I took starter out and ring gear looks good, starter clean and all gears not worn. Wondering if starter is not turning fast enough to engage with flywheel all the time due to starter or possibly weak battery. After reading forums could the ring gear be turning on the flywheel? I have cleaned up all electrical connections.

Welcome to the forum!
6V system? If so does it work if jumped with 12V?
Is the shaft clean and dry?
If all connections are clean and tight I would suspect a weak starter.
Might have a local rebuild shop test and/or rebuild it.

Starter motor turns when activated, if jumped with 12 V system and works would you assume weak starter?

starter turning but not engine could be a few things.

1, drive damaged

2, shaft dirty or bent not allowing drive to move.

3, ring gear damaged ( teeth wore or loose on fw )

4, turning way to slow due to bad electrical system/connection, or starter needing repair/brush, etc.
