48 N, rear axle seals were leaking, hubs worn, shoes oil soaked and left brake pedal sagging, left and right brake springs in place.

Installed new hubs, seals, shoes and used springs (different set).

Left pedal still sags, but left brake is adjusted and does engage drum.

Any ideas as to why pedal is sagging? Common problem? Will adjusting brake rod attached to the brake camshaft lift the pedal. (Its rusted frozen and I didn't break it free yet.)

Turnbuckle type adjuster on the other side of the tractor. Take a cotter key out, remove the pin, and adjust to get the pedal even with the right side.

Super happy to be able to help. I've gotten untold wisdom from the guys here. When I do actually have an answer, It's a pleasure to help.

(quoted from post at 22:01:56 09/21/15) Morning Hobo,

I'm open to any clear suggestions.....

I think the sprangs are too weak to return the pedal and the shoes to a neutral position.

Its a simple mechanical actuator that can actuate the shoes in either direction (up are down) set the pedal were you think it should be the actuator should be in a neutral position with the shoes at there resting position... This would be a spot were the actuator did not apply force in either direction... The shoe point of contact would be in perfect alignment with the actuator...

Brother Hobo,

I apprieciate the discussion of the brake mechanism and new spring suggestion. Thanks for trying to help me here.

PO had the brake rod backwards with the adjustable clevis on the trumpant end, clevis pin was rusted tight.

I had to cut pin ends off with sawzall and then drill out the 3/8 pin. Should have done this before I reinstalled the camshaft thru the dust shield and sealed up the axle.

Got the brake rod reinstalled with adjustable clevis at the pedal shaft. Works as it should now.

I am rite sure the adjustable clevis goes to the rear... It pulls not push

You have it all shined up but chose the old hardware I just don't get it... Its the biggest mistake folks make on a 60 year old mechanical set up...
