A friend of mine brought a 49 front mount up to my place so I could help him get it back running, he got the tractor with the little farm he bought ten years ago. He told me PO had told him that it ran, but my buddy just never messed with it. We started going over what I thought it might need and I noticed this starter...if you can tell from the pics, there is no way the copper strap is going to fit on the solenoid and starter post. Could this be a aftermarket or maybe a 9n/2n starter they have drilled and tapped? If it is a 9n/2n starter would it be OK to redrill and tap the holes so the strap fits properly? It is obvious that it has had a solenoid on for some time so maybe PO had made a custom strap and just never put it on with new solenoid???
Also, if it ran I don't see how...notice that the dizzy is missing copper conductor going from primary screw to points, the thing is it looks like the points that are in there have been well used and how in the world did the pigtail from coil ever make contact with that primary screw? Oh well... any thoughts on the starter would be appreciated. Dan
