I need to spilt a bag of wheat seed and a bag of fert to take up to our camp. is there a problem if I mix the seed and fert in the same container?

thanks.

In general, conventional wisdom is that close contact between urea/nitrogen fertilizers and seed adversely affects germination. I would think MIXING them in a bucket would fall under that category.

I wouldn't mix them as the fertilizer will draw all the moisture out of the seed if left mixed any amount of time.Mix it together before spreading the seed for best results.

Steve. We do it all the time commercially for farmers . If you band "with the seed" (which this isnt doing) more than 25 lbs actual of Nitrogen (N) and or potassium (K) you can have some germination problems. Broadcast spreading it will not result in that happening. Every prill of fert and every seed will be scattered from hades to breakfast. Just drag a harrow after to cover it for moisture retention etc. If you get a good rain it will come up like hair on adog.. We do litteraly 1,000's of acres of that every year. Is it better than agrain drill with fert boxes? No, but it does work. Been doing it for 35 years.
