Coil identification 9 n

I'm trying to find out if I have/need a 6 or 12 volt coil. I replaced the points in my 9n with the 12 volt replacements-they looked identical to the ones I took out. I assumed that whoever owned it previously had converted it to 12 volts as it had an alternator. I tried to identify the coil with markings, TAIWAN is the only marking on it. I'm not sure if he was running a 12 V coil; didn't check voltage to it prior to changing the resistor. I now have 6 V at the coil and no spark. I suspect the coil has failed. If it's a 12 V coil, I can understand why I have no spark. Should I stay with the 6 V coil?

ry it without the resistor

Ran 12 V to the coil, no spark yet[/quote]re the points actually switching (making & breaking) coil current?

Problem was in the distributer. Copper strap was grounded out. Fired right up after getting points in right. Thanks.
