Greetings Forum Chums!
Posting this on the Ford and the 9n,2n,8n boards....I know some of the Gurus follow both....Couple of pics of the 231 Ford I bought at auction....great price....leaking power steering....FIXED!....now....take a look at the filter in the photo....whats wrong with this picture?
don't see how the filter can be removed and serviced without backing out bolts from the housing....it will never clear the manifold....so????
did someone put a longer filter on this??....seems like a huge design flaw if that is correct.....if it came through with a shorter filter...then it is an easy fix.....cut it off and install a shorter filter....thoughts or tips chums!!.....IT and owners manuals have been ordered and are on the way!!....Thanks!!...and Cheers!

Don't know what you mean Ed, looks to me like that black
filter would just unscrew and come right off! ;)

Look to starboard Sailor....the Hyd filter...How ya been Bud...sending you a Ford 600 carb to work a little Lawson Magic!!

Yeah, I kinda knew that already. LOL
Doing well thanks. You getting any time on the ground?
Do you know what model that carb is?
I'll get a kit coming if I don't already have one.

They actually make a longer filter for those.
You have the short one - for use with the horizontal exhaust.
It'll come off. There's only about 5/8" of threads there.
I have the same setup and never had a problem removing it.

Shucks....you were messing with me...after 2 hours sleep after the LA red eye.....what a tool...LOL!!....you had me worried for a second!!

For you and others who may not know:
That right there is one of the biggest advances the 1976 -83 tractors had over the 1965 - 75 tractors. Gear pump instead of piston pump.
Gave you 8.4 gpm hydraulic flow instead of 4.2
And for the first time, a filter on your hydraulic system.

Thanks Dog....where is the serial number on the 231s...I would like to know the year....man it is one smooth runner!!

ALL of the smaller Fords from about 1954 onwards will have the SN stamped into the top of the transmission - just above and behind the starter. You may have to scrape some crud or paint to see it.
Should be 3 lines of code there. Post them on the Ford board and someone like Sean PA can decipher them for you. He's good at that.

Easy enough....very readable....from the right side of tractor...just aft of the starter....inboard to outboard

Hopefully Sean will see the post!!

Thanks again Dog!!
