Yet another "Should I Buy this" thread

Hi all,

I'm sure there's been a million of these threads. Here's my story.

I noticed an 8n for sale on my way home from work today. I stopped and took a quick look at it. Initial glance it looks to be in ok shape. Tires look ok enough, steering a s little sloppy from what I can tell, but the tie rod ends look ok. It was clearly recently painted (smells like new spray paint). The hood was painted blue, the engine black, and the rest red.

I'm not sure of year, it wasn't on the sign. They're asking $2,200 for it. It looks like it includes some kind of rake attachment or something. I'd be using it for running a mower and probably moving some snow in the winter (michigan).

Thoughts? Questions? Comments?

Thanks so much :)

It would to be a very good one to bring $2,200 in my area.

$2,200 is too much for a spray paint restoration, even if the correct colors.

(quoted from post at 23:25:01 08/28/15) Price and I'm always a little suspicious of new paint--of course pretty does sell

New paint certainly makes me a little suspect too. What would you think a fair price is? That seems to be about the going rate for these tractors in this area. I would certainly take an offer to the guy though if I liked it. I think he's just trying to sell it road side, so I can't imagine he gets too much interest.

Does it run-does it smoke-does it crank easy-6v or 12v..sheetmetal really good?Oil on the
mark-oil nasty? Lift work?-lift leak down???noisy engine--carb leaky? leaks underneath at
the jungle jangle holes??Oil on rear wheels--Have brakes or are they oil soaked??and on and
on..

I'll try and take a look at it, test it, and let you know what I find out

Front mount distributor or side mount that will give you and us a good clue as to about what year. Front mount and that type of paint job way to high. Side mount depending on what come with it maybe. Just to give you and idea a few years back I picked up a non-running side mount distributor 8N with 4 or 5 pieces of equipment for $800 and had bad rear tires. Had a buddy with me and he asked how we going to load this stuff up. I said with the tractor and in 30 minutes or less I had it running. So hard to say so check it out a whole lot better and fill in the blanks

If I found a decent 8N for $1500 and a decent 600 or 800 for $3000 I would save my dough or talk to my banker and buy the 6/800. They are worth the extra money.

too much......it's a N
I'm not picking on N's, I like em, but a tractor without live hydraulics isn't worth much.
Fords are expensive in my area, but if I had $2200 in my pocket, I could definitely find a NAA or 600 to buy...maybe even a 800.

If ya just 'gotta' have a N (I do understand..I've sold all mine, but am looking for another...just to putt around on)
All my contacts helping me look know....
$1500 max, useable tires, sidemount distributor....give me a call
oh so nice side mount priced over 1500(see above about NAA,600,800)...or a front mount at any price....don't even bother calling me...not interested.

One with no flaws could bring that. It already has one known flaw, the paint job. That paint job would only last about a year. If you look
you will most likely find grit painted over. Check all the things the others had said. Do you know if it's a 4 speed? Could be a 9 or2N. If
it has a 3 speed it is. Side mount adds about $100 in value. If it runs good with no smoke, side mount, no cracking on the tires, PTO
and Trans work good I might go $1800 on the high side. O'course area location does play a role in the value. Ns are good tractors and
will do what you are wanting to do just fine. But as others have said, you would be happier with a 600 or above.

I saw this tractor on the way home from work the other day also. Stopped and did a quick walk around and yes the paint fumes were strong. my opinion $2200 is high for our area on a tractor like this. If you are looking for an 8N there are a number of them in the mid teen's for sale. or if you are looking to spend this amount it would be no problem finding a Jubilee or 600 in the same or a little better condition for this money.

that's too much around here 1200 to 1500 would buy 99% of them running (if you can get them to start)

offer him a 1000 bucks for it . Only if it runs and you want something to do. Much more that and you should go for a NAA or 600 series like others say. Much better tractor and much better way to spend your money.
