49 Ford 8n engine question

looks to be attached to the rear valve cover to me.

Maybe PO had a blow by issue and this was his mediocre PCV. Don't know why you would need it for that since the filler neck is vented through the cap.

Or...maybe that valve kept hanging up and he got tired of taking the cover off to free it up. Just insert straw on favorite penetrating lube and hose away.

It should not be there, to make a long story short.

ome stationary industrial engines used that crankcase breather tube.
 
There was a guy on the board here a few years
ago who wanted to put a PVC system on his N.
Folks here asked him why bother to go through
all that trouble since he needed to drill a
hole in his block to do it.
But he was from California and must have drank
the kool aid. Bound and determined he was going
to cut pollution and save the planet.
 
Don't know why it's there but I would plug it before the mice get it there and cause damage.
