OT: Boat Trip

My Son recently purchased a 29' Silverton cabin cruiser in Biloxi MS. We plan to move it to Kentucky Lake by way of the Tenn-Tom Bigbee Waterway / TN River in mid October. Has anyone ever made this trip?

Maybe try googling Interior dept. waterway trails by each state. You'll need to consider each waterways depth, draft of your boat and where locks and dams are as well as procedures to pass through each one. Only path I can see is Miss. river to the Ohio river at the tip of IL.(Cairo) I am not familiar with the waterway you mentioned nor see access from the Miss. river.I will admit that I'm not familiar with it.Maybe someone with more local knowledge will chime in. Good luck, sounds like an interesting trip.

Try Corp of Engineers for info. They control waterways.

Kentucky lake flows into Ohio r. but Biloxi flows into Gulf.

Wrong direction

The route is through the Mobile Bay up The Black Warrior/Tombigbee river to the Tenn-Tombigbee waterway to the Tennessee River at Pick-Wick lake, down river locking down at Pick-Wick dam to Kentucky lake. A total of 12 locks to negotiate, we estimate 7 or 8 days. We already have the navigation charts from the Corps, just thought maybe some one here had made the trip and had some pointers.

No experience even tho I've boated on Pickwick Lake for 40 years. If you google 'boating forums' you get many choices.

Looks like a really great adventure. Take an extra anchor and dinghy and winch for pulling yourself off sand bars, LOL.

I made the trip both ways on a 34' sailboat. The only thing that was difficult was the trip back up the Lower Black warrior with the river running. Not much fun but I hugged the banks to stay out of the strong current. I kept in touch with the tow operators on the VHF just to let them know where I was and what direction I was coming. They also like to converse to fill the time. Pay attention to river debris. If I remember right there is not much stopping places between Mobile and Demopolis. Have Fun.
