8n leaking gas from carburetor

I had the problem with gas leaking from the carburetor on my 8N, After replacing the float, the needle valve and the seat with gasket 2 times, the problem persisted. I scraped the body of the carb where the gasket seats. Upon close examination I found that the machining of the area where the needle valve seats had rough machining marks. I suspected that gas was not seeping by the needle valve but getting by the gasket for the seat. I put a light coat of gasket maker on the gasket and reassembled the carb. After several days of the tractor being tested, there has been no gas leaking. However, only time will tell if this is a permanent fix.

I had the same experience once. I put an o ring between the seat and the casting and that solved the problem.

Silicone gasket maker will not stand up to gasoline exposure for long. If you use something like
Permatex #2 it should last.
